Shiraz

The Stag Shiraz

St Huberts, The Stag Shiraz has a youthful and vibrant palate of cherries, warm spice and toasty oak. The finish is refined with velvety tannins and hint of spicy oak. It is bold without being overwhelming, which makes it easier for food matching.

S C Pannell Koomilya

A blend of three Koomilya Shiraz blocks, the majority of which is sourced from non-clonal Shiraz grafted on Gewürztraminer (GT Block). This block was planted in 1970, and grafted in the early 1990s. The remaining Shiraz was sourced from the Mulberry Block & Spider Block, planted in the early 2000s with clones sourced from 130+-year-old Hardy Shiraz (Upper Tintara), the neighbouring vineyard. Hand-harvested on 24th February; GT Block 5.26 tonnes (two fermenters), Bobs Block 4.1 tonnes (one fermenter), Mulberry Block 2.5 tonnes (one fermenter). Final blend of 44% GT Block, 35% Spider Block & 21 % Mulberry Block. Fruit spent 15 days on skins in open-top fermenters before being pressed off, with the hard pressings removed to give a juice yield of approximately 40 litres a tonne. The wine was naturally fermented and transferred to stainless steel tank for 28 days, then racked into French vats (4,500-litre & 2,500-litre), and two 500-litre French puncheons. Here they underwent malolactic fermentation, before being racked out and left. 852 dozen bottled on the 23rd of February 2015, after spending a total of 10 months in oak.

Penfolds Grange Shiraz LNY GB

Ring in the Year of the Dragon with one of the world's most celebrated wines. The first commercial release of Grange coincided with the Year of the Dragon, bringing a unique sentiment to this release. Continuing an unbroken lineage from the very first experimental release, the 2019 Grange is full-bodied, powerful, and perfectly balanced - a gift that is sure to be treasured for years to come. Aromas; Automatically recognisable - formic and glacial higher notes. Beneath, a more familial oaked nuttiness recedes to reveal aromas of black licorice/anise/black olive. A shroud of condensed glazed fruits surrenders to reveal a fresher disposition … a coulis of berries and stone fruits; boiled beetroot. Upon sitting, a sprinkle of lavender and exotic spices almost completes the aromatic package - well, at least for another minute or two. Early days. Palate; Cohesion, vigour, sheen, poise. Fresh and balanced. Neither exaggerated nor over-ripe – lively blueberry and other youthful blue/black fruits bely the maturation timeline of this alluring blend. Certainly befitting this style, unmistakable barrel-ferment characters are undoubtedly more pronounced on palate than nose. If the mid-palate is somewhat formidable (ably supporting a thick/dense core), by contrast the back-palate is creamy and caressingly endearing. Expansive and full – washing away all ahead of it. Texturally, chewy/grainy tannins and just-right acidity. Peak Drinking: 2029 - 2065 Awards: • 98+ Points - Andrew Caillard MW • 98 Points - Tyson Stelzer • 98 Points - Ken Gargett • 98 Points - Jeni Port • 19+/20 Points - Matthew Jukes

Torbreck Descendant Shiraz

'Dark purple-crimson; the grapes come from vines established by cuttings from the old vines that make RunRig. The complex black fruits and licorice of the bouquet are precisely replayed on the full-bodied palate, with added mocha/dark chocolate; the tannins are full and round, giving the wine balance and length.' (2010 Vintage) - 95 Points. - James Halliday - Published on 10 Jul 2013.

Haselgrove Col Cross Shiraz

The Col Cross Story Somewhere in McLaren Vale youll find a very special block of old vine Shiraz. If you search for it, an olive grove to the west and an ancient chapel will be your guide. Dense, classic Shiraz characters of blackberry and dark cherry mesh seamlessly with spicy anise and cedary French oak. A concentrated palate of generous dark fruits and black cherry, the old vines contribute complex spices, cinnamon and nutmeg.
