Cockburn's Special Reserve Port

Established by Scotsman Robert Cockburn in 1815, who returned to Portugal after first visiting the country as a soldier fighting under Wellington in the Napoleonic Wars. Cockburn's vineyard holdings are some of the largest in the Douro region which gives the house valuable flexibility in selecting only the very best fruit for their ports. This Special Reserve Port is a mature off-dry style with a 'vintage character' of dried plums, walnuts and tobacco aromas and a palate that is soft and mellow with a nice, long length.

Kings of Prohibition Old Tawny

A medium tawny in appearance, the wine has a full warming palate with rich flavours of toffee, cherry vanilla and caramel. The wine although being sweet, still fin is hes fresh and lively. Complimented by aromas of vanilla and toast with a hint of raisins and fruitcake. Best as a late night tipple but can be a perfect wine to accompany chocolate and mixed nuts. This tawny also pairs well with a rich dessert such as sticky date pudding or a chocolate tart. The grapes are harvested at optimum maturity and then fermented for a short ti me on their skins . The wine is then drained and pressed and the grape spirit is added to the fermenting. A portion of th is wine spends time maturing in used Whisky barrels for one year. The wine is then clarified, stabilised and a portion of the wine goes to barrel to mature in ambient temperature. Delicious drinking now but will also cellar for up to 3 years.

Toro Albala Poley Fino del Lagar 10 Años Non-Vintage Non-Vintage

15%ABV. Toro Albalá's Eléctrico solera produces a superb, complex and powerful Fino with vivid aromas and flavours of green apple, lemon peel, grilled almond, and iodine. One of the keys to understanding this wine is that it has not been fortified, i.e., it only has the natural alcohol from its primary fermentation. This makes for a particularly pure and vinous expression of Fino. It’s also made from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes, which brings texture and depth. This offers an invitingly layered mid-palate and a round finish that sets it apart from Jerezano Fino and Manzanilla. However, there is still plenty of that bright, chalky crackle—so distinctive of the Fino style and the local chalky soils. The freshness is, well, electrico! As always, this is an absolute bargain.

St Andrews Medium Dry Apera

Fortified wines were perfected in the 1700s and were popular as they were able to withstand long sea journeys. A wine becomes fortified when a neutral spirit is added during the fermentation process. There are many different types of fortified wines including Tawny, Port, Apera, Sherry, Muscat and other fortifieds. Common flavours include ginger, toasted hazelnuts, raisins, caramel and cinnamon. Fortified wine pairs well with seafood, tapas, fruit cake or enjoyed as a cocktail, aperitif or digestive. A medium dry style Sherry perfect for the kitchen or as a pre-dinner starter. An ideal match to your favourite soup.
