In 1818, Madame Clicquot made the first-ever "rosé d'assemblage" champagne by mixing some of her red Bouzy wines with white ones. La Grande Dame Rosé honors her idea by using 90% Pinot Noir from the historical Grands Crus of Aÿ, Verzenay, Verzy, Ambonnay, and Bouzy, enriched by 10% Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. This base is then blended with 13% Pinot Noir red wine exclusively from the 'Clos Colin' parcel, situated in Bouzy. Aged on lees for 10 years in bottle before being disgorged and topped with a dosage of 8g/L.

Over 200 years ago in 1818 Madame Cliquot invented the first known blended rose champagne. Blending parcels of red-wine grapes created a stronger rose. Today, cellar master Domonique Demarville continues to sources red wines from the most sought after vineyards in Champagne to maintain the bold style that Veuve is known for. Champagne expert Tyson Stelzer agrees noting that "this is a lesson in what a difference 12% red wine can make in a blend, particularly in the hands of one of the finest red wine outfits in all of Champagne". Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame is name in honour of the famed and undoubted Champagne pioneer, widow Clicquot. Widowed at the tender age of 28, Madame Clicquot continued her late husband's work and is the sole reason why her Champagne house is held in the high esteem that it is today. The 1998 La Grande Dame is a wine of pure beauty and power. A majority blend of Pinot Noir, the vintage conditions are clearly visible in the glass with flavours of peach, apricot and touch of brioche and nuttiness. A true classic for the ages.

A beautiful golden-yellow colour, with a foaming necklace of tiny bubbles. The nose is initially reminiscent of white fruits and raisins, then of vanilla and later of brioche. The Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rosé is a true symphony of wine, orchestrated by Madame Clicquot in 1818 when she blended, for the very first time in Champagne history, a selection of the finest black and white grapes. With this wine-making method, consisting of blending red wines and white wines, Madame Clicquot reinvented rosé wine, breaking away from the other champagne houses whose rosé wines were traditionally produced by macerating black grapes in colourless juice. Silky and structured, elegant and fruity, the Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rosé stands up for its excellent ageing potential of at least 20 years.
