Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz
One of the benchmark wines to come out of the Coonawarra, the Penfolds Bin 128 is a delightful cool-climate shiraz. Matured in French Oak, with flavours of white pepper and floral spice, the 2014 Bin 128 is a rich and full-bodied Shiraz.
Majella The Malleea Cabernet Shiraz
The Malleea (an aboriginal word for 'green paddock') is a very fine exapmle of the classic Australian Cabernet/Shiraz blend. The 2008 is rich, dark magenta in colour, with ripe plums, spice and vanillin oak on the nose. The palate is like a complex fruit cake with layers of fresh berries, black olives and hints of chocolate.
Fox Creek Wines Reserve Shiraz
The flagship wine from Fox Creek is a muscular McLaren Vale number, Langtons Classified Excellent and built to go the journey in the cellar. Its fruit is sourced from four sub-regions of McLaren Vale, its oak painstakingly chosen to complement the individual parcels of fruit, and the finished wine manages both intensity and finesse.
Crawford River Wines Riesling
With its fresh, intense lemon tonic, pear, apple, oyster shell aromas, superb lemon curd richness, persistence and minerality, Crawford River Riesling reflects the modern idiom of the Riesling style. The dry-grown vines, first planted in 1975 by John Thomson, are deeply anchored in gravelly friable basalt loams over clays and an ancient limestone seabed. Second generation winemaker Belinda Thomson, with her father John Thomson, continues the philosophy of minimal intervention and movement during vinification. The cold-settled juice is batch fermented around 12° - 15° C and left on lees for around six weeks before bottling in September.
Freycinet Vineyards Pinot Noir
Inspired by the finer end of the red Burgundy spectrum, Tasmania has the cool climate and conditions to produce some of the best Pinot in the country, and the winemakers at Freycinet know it. Their flagship wine has all the hallmarks of cool climate, Tasmania Pinot concentration, complexity and great length. The vines are managed with a diligence which borders on obsession. The fruit is hand picked at harvest, lightly crushed and destemmed before fermentation with small quantities of whole bunch fruit. The resulting wine shows dark red fruit, spice and a subtle profile of game and truffle.
Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No.1 Cabernets
Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No.1 Yarra Valley Cabernet A feature of the Langton’s Classification since its 1990 inception, “No . 1” remains one of Australia’s most sought-after Bordeaux style blends. It is principally a Cabernet Sauvignon affair, with Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot playing supporting roles. Described as a “classic claret-style”, it features bright, blackcurrant fruit characters, savoury complexity and fine-grained tannins. Originally made by the late great Dr Bailey Carrodus, this flagship of the Yarra has been in the hands of Sarah Crowe (James Halliday’s 2016 Winemaker of the Year) since the 2013 vintage.
Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
'Black Label' Cabernet Sauvignon, which was first vintaged in 1954, has evolved markedly over the decades. It is arguably Australia's most recognised Cabernet Sauvignon, and has more than any other, helped define Coonawarra. The wine is matured in new and seasoned French oak for 12 to 18 months. A classic Coonawarra Cabernet with pristine dark berry/ cassis aromas, fine grained tannins and underlying savoury nuances, it develops into a rich, chocolaty wine with age. In a super vintage, this wine can look astonishingly like a 2nd or 3rd growth Bordeaux with its pure cassis aromas and cedary complexity. Henschke Keyneton Estate Euphonium Shiraz Cabernet Merlot
Langton's Classified Excellent WIN an Exceptional wine cellar* worth more than $10k The Keyneton Euphonium epitomises the Henschke winemaking style. Typically this elegantly proportioned wine shows ripe dark berry, dried herb spicy aromas, plush concentrated flavours, velvety textures and long sinuous finish. The wine is a Shiraz dominant blend with minor components of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc from the Eden and Barossa Valleys. It is named after the Barossa Hills village of Keyneton, the centre of the Henschke familys cultural and working life for over 150 years. Maturation takes place in a small proportion of new oak hogsheads with the remainder seasoned French and American oak hogsheads for 18 months. "The Euphonium moniker was first introduced with the 2006 vintage.
