The dark fruit aromas are underpinned by developing earthy characters, with spice and a hint of minerality. The palate shows plenty of power and concentration as the fruit unfolds, with big soft tannins, so typical from this site, and the iron-like sanguine finish. Ironheart represents the most eloquent expression of Shiraz from our Estate, grown on the most elite Shiraz block which we refer to simply as Block 15. The name Ironheart speaks to the reddish ironstone soils of this unique site. As with all of our wines, we use open-top fermenters, natural yeast fermentation and employ a careful regime of plunging, drain and returns to get the right balance of extraction. We fill 25% of the fermenter with whole clusters which adds some texture and complexity. The Yangarra philosophy centers around producing wines solely from our single-vineyard estate, where our bush-vine Grenache is the keystone variety. With our feet firm in history, and our eyes on the horizon, Yangarra Estate now exists to deliver the essence of this beautiful place to your glass. Made by Rockstar winemaker Ben Riggs, the McLaren Vale Shiraz is as true an expression as one could hope for. The fifth release of the wine is based around a core of pristine fruit with dark red berries, hints of spice, earth, tar and leather and with seamlessly integrated oak. Ripe tannins are apparent but not overwhelming, meaning this is a wine which can be enjoyed now or in the next 10-15 years.
