This wine has an intriguing, bright garnet hue, captivating on the nose with ripe cherry, wild strawberries and bramble notes. On the palate, the wine is rich and flowing with tantalising bready sweetness. Rich boysenberry flavours are supported by elegant French oak, lending spice and toasty notes. The finish is lingering and complex, bright with natural acidity.

Hawkshead was the first home in New Zealand of Denis Marshall’s ancestor, naturalist William Swainson, Fellow of the Royal Society, who arrived to make his home here in 1841. Denis Marshall & Ulrike Kurenbach dedicate their wines to all those who have made this beautiful country their home. Grapes are hand-picked, de-stemmed and matured in French oak barrels. This wine is principally from the Rocky Point Vineyard, which is home to some of the steepest blocks in Central Otago. Elegant vines grow on top of an underlay of schist rock providing high mineraltity and spice to the grapes whilst above the surface we see an abundance of wild thyme.
