Mount Mary Quintet

Australia's premier cool climate Cabernet. It was John Middleton's dream to create such a wine and purchased the Mount Mary property in the Yarra Valley in 1971 to persue this dream. Quintet is his dream realised and is a blend of the classic Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec.

Jasper Hill Emily's Paddock Shiraz Cabernet Franc

Jasper Hills Emilys Paddock is mostly shiraz - with a defining splash of cabernet franc. A lot has been made over the years of the terroir difference between Jasper Hill Emilys and Georgias, but its the cabernet franc that really differentiates them. Wonderfully fragrant and lifted on the nose, Emily's Paddock is not only wonderful upon release, the wine will age gracefully over many years in the good cellar.

Yarra Yering Dry Red No 2

From some of the earliest plantings of Shiraz in the Yarra Valley with vines dating back to 1969. Shiraz (96%) co-fermented with small parcels of Viognier, Marsanne and Mataro aged 12 to 18 months in 50% new French oak barrels produces a wine that is perfumed and feminine with the tannins and acidity as integral to the wine as the fruit. M Chapoutier Les Greffieux Ermitage

The Chapoutier Estate has been present in the Rhone Valley since 1808, always on a quest to find different tastes and expressions of terroir, or sense of place. Hermitage is regarded by some as the greatest expression of Shiraz from anywhere in the world. Château Trottevieille Saint-Émilion

Château Trottevieille is a rare story in the appellation of St-Émilion where a Bordeaux négociant owns the premier grand cru. The property is set apart from most of the vineyards in St-Émilion, on the far eastern edge. The wines of Trottevieille are ones that require a bit of time in the bottle to show their true elegance and blackcurrant richness, but in early drinking years like the 2008, one doesn't have to wait as long.

Château Canon-la-Gaffelière Saint-Émilion

Château Canon-la-Gaffelière lies on flat, sandy soil on the road that runs from the Libourne-Bergerac road to Saint-Émilion. In the past the wines of the Château often seemed oaky and out of balance, but now are denser, richer and more textured. Through experimentation and experience in the vineyard, Canon-la-Gaffeliere goes from strength to strength. The proof which can be tasted in the quite extraordinary 2009 wine which has a higher than normal proportion of Cabernet Franc. Luxurious tannins along with ripe, velvet like fruit come together magnificently in a wine that will be supremely enjoyable over the next 20+ years.

Château Canon Saint-Émilion

Château Canon is a beautiful property that sits just outside the walls of the town of Saint-Émilion. The Château has 13 hectares of it's total of 21 inside a Clos (walled) vineyard. Fantastically perfumed and elegant wines due to the fragrant blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc being the Château's style. 2009 is considered to be one of the greatest Canon's in recent memory, harnessing the great qualities of the vintage perfectly. The tightrope of plush fruit, integrated oak and dusty tannins are all walked with utmost perfection.

Château Gruaud Larose Saint-Julien

Château Gruaud-Larose is a classical Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot blend that shows ripe dark cherry fruit, firm tannins and decent acidity. The 2009 vintage has proved to be one of the greatest vintages in living memory and the Gruaud has come along for the ride nicely. Still showing that trademark poise Saint-Julien is famous for, yet with powerful fruit weight and close to immortal length. Notes of licquorice, pencil shavings and blackberry bush that is more akin to more fruit forward appellations. A ripping example from a great vintage.
